MahJong Lessons

Our Level 1 course is designed for beginners who want to learn the fundamentals of American MahJong. This introductory class provides a strong foundation and helps new players understand how the game works before joining open play events.

Topics include:

Understanding the MahJong card

Learning tile categories and suits

The Charleston and tile exchange process

Basic game setup and etiquette

Building hands and identifying patterns

Calling tiles and game terminology

Scoring basics and winning a hand

By the end of your Level 1 Lesson, you'll have the confidence needed to sit down at a table and begin playing with others!

Level 2 Guided Play is designed for players who have completed Level 1 instruction and are ready to strengthen their understanding of the fundamentals of American Mahjong. During this interactive session, participants will play complete games with guidance from an instructor who will provide real-time assistance.

This session focuses on:

 helping players become comfortable with game setup

executing the Charleston, reading the card 

confidently navigating the flow of play.

Participants will receive hands-on guidance while playing, allowing them to practice essential skills in a supportive and encouraging environment. 

Our Level 3 Open Play session is designed for players who understand the basics and have some playing experience. Open Play is a casual opportunity  practice, meet other players at all levels, and build new friendships. This is a more organic way to strengthen their strategy, confidence, and decision-making skills in a less structured environment. We consider this vital to building a Mahjong Community.

Once you've mastered the basics, Level 4 (often referred to as a 102 class)  takes your understanding to the next level. This course focuses on strategy, decision-making, and developing the skills needed to become a stronger, more confident player.

Instructors provide drills and activities to improve accuracy, timing, pattern recognition, Charleston decisions and game etiquette.

This intense experience is for those who can play the game without assistance and want to build confidence for competitive play!

Level 5 is designed for experienced players who are ready to transition from social play to a more competitive league-style environment. League play  helps you focu on improving game speed, sharpening decision-making skills, and developing the confidence needed to participate successfully in competitive environments.

Register for a League and play weekly using National Mahjongg League scoring guidelines.  In most leagues, prizes and/or money is awarded at the end of the league

Level 6 is your opportunity to put everything you've learned into action by participating in tournament-style Mahjong. Compete alongside fellow players in a fun, organized environment where you'll gain real-world experience, sharpen your skills, and build confidence with every game.

Whether you're playing for the challenge, the camaraderie, or the thrill of competition, tournaments are a rewarding way to continue your Mahjong journey.

Win or lose, every tournament is a chance to learn, improve, and have fun!
